5-a-day

5-a-day

Hello Dear Reader

5-a-day

It has been a while since I wrote a straight forward blog. 2014 had a number of life changing events, including a house move, good and bad news like many and much more. I finally finished the first draft of my sci-fi novel Marcus Rogue – The Emerald Treasure and that is now ready to edit. The new year as always gives you the chance to make a change in life. I have for years tried to increase my general health and as years move on it becomes more important to keep fit. So this new year I have thought about my 5-a-day and exercise.

The 5-a-day is something people keep telling you to do. Often it is time-consuming and after the first couple of days or weeks it drifts away. I have found a device that might just help. I purchased the Breville Blend-Active which is remarkably easy to use even for me. Years ago I tried one of those juicing machines, but you ended up spending so much time cleaning it from the waste it just got boring to be honest. Trying to eat 5 fruit or veg each day is hard for some of us. This blend-active makes the change. The device is a bottle for the juice, a blade unit and the blender unit. Here is how easy it really can be.

My favourite so far is as follows;

IMG_08652 Apples

1 Kiwi fruit

1 Stick of Celery

A hand full of Spinach leaves

Apple juice

Honey

For me, I peel the apples and kiwi, then chop all the fruit, removing the apple core, pour 300ml of apple juice into the bottle supplied the fruit and tablespoon of honey.

IMG_0870IMG_0866After attaching the blade unit (the black top) you fit that into the base unit (a motor), press the button and blend. It is as simple as that, around 10 minutes to complete the process. All you need to do is wash the blade unit, add the bottle top and away you go.

The beauty of this device is how simple it is to make these drinks. They are good for you because you can make our own versions. There are hundreds of recipes out there just a quick search gives you the idea.

it can do things like iced coffee’s, milk shakes, fruit smoothies and juices. With such a wide range, you can keep your interest and that for me is the key bit. If you can keep something easy and simple, it gives you a chance of reaching your goal.

I have also added a FitBit to help me keep track of my steps. Again, another simple device which can track your walks or runs, count the steps, the floors, how much sleep you get (sort of) and other things. You can keep track of the food and water you have each day. That starts to push the limits for me.

It is shown that simple exercise and fruit does help. I would add something to relax you, make you laugh and a passion to keep you going. Maybe that is the 5-a-day, much more than just fruit and veg for the body but the mind as well. Keep properly active, as the device says blend-active, you never know.

Tagline:’Blend!’
